would agree with each other. they assumed we would disagree with each other. yes. out of those disagreements we would create more imaginable and enduring solutions than any t e tyrant could come up with on their own. we have totally forgotten and lost that. it requires all of the politicians and every one of us as citizens to say, we know what happens if we go down this road, we are going down a road of catastrophe, not addressing climate, not building infrastructure, accepting a world where our kids education is reinforcing the income inequality we have rather than liberating people from it. the only way is to dig our way out of it face-to-face, accepting that disagreement is part of living in a democracy but that we have an obligation to the next generation of americans to begin to create some bipartisan solutions that can move the country forward. let me ask you this, because you and i have had conversations about campaign finance and the way that it has corrupted the
a formidable organization in the state right now. the interesting thing about this campaign and i don t think it s unlike the obama campaign there is a focus on building a community of supporters. one of our organizers runs a community garden. one of our organizers run as 5 k most weekends and people run with her. it s not always transactional. it s not always about the predicts. it s just bringing people together and reminding us like community is where this country really gets the hard work done and the best work done. why did you make such a bet on iowa? you know, i think of it as a bet on democracy. i really believed not just in what i was fighting for as president as a presidential candidate, but how i would fight for it. and so for me, it was about investing in democracy. and that meant getting out there from the beginning. having people on the ground who would talk about it face-to-face, help us organize,
north korea had for the united states. but, you know, it s not it s not michael cohen s fault or the democratic lawmakers fault that this summit failed. it failed because there s is such a big gulf between the u.s. and north korea on this issue of denuclearization and president trump has not put in the spade work, the diplomatic work to really lay a foundation for a deal. he thought he could jet halfway around the world and sort of sit face-to-face with kim jong-un and because of the love letters they ve sent back and forth and because of the personal chemistry that they had developed, they could suddenly create a deal. but international diplomacy doesn t quite work that way. laura, were you at all surprised in the coverage of saturday s speech by the president? yes, our phones all lit up. i was following phil rucker s kind of minute by minute account of what had happened. our phones all blew up with the fact that our president had used

they are not behaving as if it s a big concern and this is an issue for us because we have a lot of military objectives across the world. europe is not the priority that it was in 1949 when we created nato, so their lack of support for their own mission is very disconcerting. mike: pretty interesting must-see tv seeing a president get into it face-to-face with face with the nato secretary general. take a listen to this. it s disproportionate and not fair to the taxpayers of the united states and we are going to make it fair, so that will be it. i want to just complement the secretary, he s worked very hard on this problem. he understands it better than anybody. your message is having an impact and we are going to build on that to make sure we have further increases. all allies are going to develop national plans on how to spend more. mike: susan, your reaction to what we saw today? that s definitely a diplomat talking after really getting
