and, they were also fighting the fire. reporter: all 12 flight attendants were seated near the plane s exits. when it crash landed, the tail ripped off and three attendants were ejected, sent flying on to the runway. they survived. my god that s scary. reporter: an emergency chute inflated inside the cabin trapping a flight attendant who also survived. just trying to give a signal to us by moving her hand like this. you know? translator: i hope for all of the families who have suffered losses from this accident to recover as quickly as possible and they re all in my prayers. reporter: members of the crew, some in wheelchairs, there alongside the head flight attendant, that sully sullenberger of flight 214, we heard from earlier this week, now all finally headed home. now we know, pilots told flight attendants specifically not to evacuate flight 214. they made an announcement over the loud speaker and told
along with their saert but they re incredibly resilient and were able to tell us all about what it was like to be on flight 214 as it crash landed. oh my god! oh, it s an accident! reporter: the chaos of a plane crash, the sudden impact, the spinning, the dust, the fire, and then the desperate scramble to stay alive. there was no warning or anything. it was just, just happened. reporter: 15-year-old esther, 13-year-old joseph, 11-year-old sarah jiang and their parents were all inside the plane returning from a family vacation. we were all bouncing all over the place. i just remember there being dust everywhere and i was freaking out and then it just stopped. reporter: at first, the jang siblings weren t sure they survived the crash. i was also calling out for my
it crash landed at san francisco international, killing two people and injuries over 180 others, including 49 who have sustained serious injuries. it s so surreal. i feel like there was so much chaos going on and it was quiet. we spoke about this. there was it probably was very loud out there, but it was quiet. everybody was doing what they were trained to do. save lives. and just last hour ntsb investigators held a press conference. they gave some more information about the pilot who was at the helm. according to officials, the head pilot was experienced but only had about 43 hours of experience on a boeing 777. now, they plan to interview all four pilots today. nbc s tom costello is in san francisco, where ntsb officials just wrapped up their press conference. tom, what more did we learn about the cause of this terrible crash? reporter: i don t think we know a whole lot about the cause.
