Projects to restore the great barn and herb house at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village are getting a big boost in funding from federal grants and private donations.
Though the faith currently comprises one active community with two congregants, Shakerism’s ideals have found new acolytes in the food, fashion, art and design worlds.

The Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village looks like a painting in the early morning light, its neat row of white buildings dappled with sun and backed by a rolling green pasture dotted with sheep. Soon, gardeners will arrive to work alongside the Shakers and the hum of daily life will fill the idyllic hillside village.
