Feb. 9 A small earthquake hit Siskiyou County this morning just before 6:15 a.m., according to reports from the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake was a magnitude 2.6 and was centered northwest of Weed, near Grass Lake at 15.5 kilometers deep, the USGS reported.

Yreka City Council: Body Art events are a go in split decision [Siskiyou Daily News, Yreka, Calif.]
Jan. 26 After tabling in November a resolution to approve street closures and other requests for Yreka’s 2021 Art Hops events, the council gave the go-ahead for the events to happen at its meeting Tuesday by a 3-2 vote.
The sticking point has been in regards to two body painting events, dubbed “My Body Your Canvas.”
Art Hops events are scheduled to happen six times this year on the fourth Friday of each month, from May through October, depending on the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tran, 51, jumped at the chance to practice medicine in Yreka when he was recently offered the position. He started his duties in October after working for more than 20 years as a physician in Michigan.
Before his phone interview with the Siskiyou Daily News, Tran s staff said he would be running late because a patient needed extra time to discuss an issue they had. Tran said it was important to prioritize this patient and to thoroughly go over their concerns and ways to treat the issue.
Yreka seeks wastewater treatment plant operator [Siskiyou Daily News, Yreka, Calif.]
Dec. 29 YREKA The Yreka City Council appropriate $62,500 during their Dec. 17 meeting to hire an additional journey level licensed wastewater treatment plant operator.
Public works director Matt Bray said the position is “urgently needed” due to an upcoming planned retirement and a continued expected disability leave for a plant operator. The funding for this position will be from utility fee revenue.
Bray said it takes a person a year to become licensed for this position, and finding qualified candidates for this crucial position has been a challenge for cities across the country.

Dec. 25 If you’re like me, sometimes you enjoy holiday movies that aren’t specifically holiday related, such as Joe Dante’s “Gremlins,” or the cult classic “Die Hard.” although there is quite the argument being made for both being considered classic Christmas movies.
If you are feeling an uplifting film this holiday that doesn’t necessarily focus on finding the Christmas spirit, I would recommend you check out Disney’s “Godmothered,” a lighthearted comedy that attempts to change the classic Disney meaning of “happily ever after.”
