Etna senior earns statewide title for FFA reporting duties

A member of the Etna High FFA earned a state title for her work as a STAR Reporter, by sharing the club s work via print media, radio broadcast or television broadcast, during a virtual California FFA event on Sunday.
The award is designed to recognize chapter reporters who go above and beyond in the area of journalism. Downey, a senior, was one of six statewide state finalists for the 2020-21 Star Reporter recognition program.
“This is a clear sign of her remarkable work,” said Kellie Hargett who, along with Jake Hargett, run the FFA program at EHS. “We are so proud of her for earning this state title.

California’s Siskiyou County has identified a novel way to evaporate the growing number of illegal cannabis farms sprouting up in a state that seems to forever be on the brink of drought: restrict where water trucks can go.
After green-lighting the new ordinance under the
Sikiyou County Code earlier this month, the Board of Supervisors issued a notice of a public hearing to gather additional input “relating to water trucks and regulating their use upon certain county roads.” That meeting is scheduled for June 1 or as soon thereafter as possible in response to COVID-19 infection rates at the time.
Former Siskiyou judge Bob Kaster publishes second thriller novel

Those who read and enjoyed retired Siskiyou County judge Bob Kaster s first book will be be excited to hear he s had a sequel published.
“The Mansion – A Septuagenarian Thriller,” was self-published and can be purchased locally at Zephyr Books & Coffee and MacGregor’s Book Nook in Yreka. The books are also available from Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle e-book. His first novel, The Septuagenarian: An R-Rated Thriller, was published in August of 2019.
Kaster said it certainly helped to have already written a novel when he began work on his second endeavor. “You learn a lot just by doing it,” Kaster said, adding it helps that he s also an avid reader.
