The 1st Army Region has publicly apologised after a private in Kanchanaburi fired at several people on Friday in a fit of rage.
The remarks, conveyed by the 1st Army Region s public relations team, expressed both apologies and regret over the incident, saying the army will fully cooperate with the Royal Thai Police in its investigation.
Pvt Amornthep Limcharoen, attached to the 2nd Infantry Battalion of the 9th Infantry Regiment, on Friday opened fire at people in a house in Kanchanaburi, injuring several.
Police said the incident followed an argument between the private and his girlfriend. Her family is asking the police to charge Pvt Amornthep with unlawlul detention, it said.

The Army is giving Thai men a chance to voluntarily join the military in Thailand.

Thai men who haven’t been conscripted or recruited but want to join the military can register online via www.rcm64.rta.mi.th until Feb 28.
This is the first time that the Army is giving Thai men a chance to voluntarily join the services.
Colonel Sirichan Ngathong, deputy Army spokesperson, said this move is in line with the Defence Ministry’s policy to introduce reforms, adding that the aim is to recruit 10,000 military officers this year.
“Once the registration is closed, registrants must report to the selection committee on March 5. Those selected must report to the Army in May,” she said.

Following the rise in Covid-19 cases, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is setting up a field hospital in the compound of Bang Khunthian Geriatric Hospital with 500-600 beds to treat infected people.
Located in the Bang Khunthian area on the outskirts of Bangkok, a section of the newly built hospital will be used to accommodate the asymptomatic infected or those with mild symptoms.
