Tourists from outside the European Union could soon be allowed to visit the region, as member states have endorsed a plan to ease COVID-19-related restrictions on foreign travel.
Ambassadors of member countries to Brussels this past week agreed to a European Council proposal that would welcome the arrival of vaccinated visitors as well as nonessential travelers from countries that are deemed low risk. The council must now formally adopt the move for it to go ahead.

Thailand s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given emergency use authorisation for the Covid-19 vaccine of Moderna, an FDA official said.
The vaccine is the fourth coronavirus vaccine approved so far in the country. Its use is valid for one year from May 13, said Paisan Dankhu, the secretary general of the Food and Drug Administration.
The approval will the way for commercial vaccinations by private hospitals, who have been given a green light to give Covid shots made by Thai FDA-approved manufacturers other than Sinovac Biotec (CoronaVac), Astrazeneca (Vaxzevria, Covishield), Pfizer (Comirnaty), Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) and Gamaleya (Sputnik V). NEW DELHI/CAIRO－Anti-epidemic supplies including 100 oxygen concentrators and 40 ventilators donated by the Red Cross Society of China, or RCSC, arrived in India on Sunday, Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong said in a tweet.
The shipment by a Chinese cargo flight from China s southwestern city of Chengdu was the first batch of anti-epidemic supplies donated by the RCSC to India, he said.
Sun also said the RCSC has decided to provide $1 million in cash to the Indian Red Cross Society through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to help India fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Member states meeting in hope to sign off on plan to open up to jabbed visitors
The European Union s 27 member states were on Tuesday due to begin discussing a proposal to ease coronavirus travel restrictions to the region in an effort to resuscitate the bloc s tourism sector and broader economy.
A proposal toward this aim loosening the curbs on nonessential travel had been put forward by the European Commission on Monday.
