A Mexican legend tells of a young girl who dearly wished to visit the nativity crib inside a nearby church. But she was poor and had no gift for the baby Jesus. She sat outside the church and a passing lady pointed to some weeds, suggesting to the girl that she takes them as her gift. The lady told the young girl “the gift itself was not as important as the reason for the gift.” The girl did as the lady suggested. A virtual friendship group which has helped to ease the loneliness of many people during lockdown is hoping to attract funding.
The Friendship Circle South Lincolnshire has attracted 550 members since it was launched by Andrea Briggs earlier this year.
Mrs Briggs is looking ahead to the spring when she is hoping to organise a number of events but needs funding to help make this possible.
Amanda Scott is the Singing Gardener.
She said: âIt is quite a satisfying feeling to know that we are bringing people together.
âI have seen some lovely friendships develop and there are people that I now know that I would never have known otherwise.
