Simultaneously began to intern at a San Francisco Attorneys Office they can services unit; i learn about criminal system and the legal system in general. I learn about the resources and the city, domestic violence, mental health. Homeless individuals are victimized a lot. Currently i am a shelter advocate; im getting to know about housing, organizing, my strongest point about working there in my mind is that work inside the shelters; i work with the management of every city funded shelter. I have a working relationship with them already. It would be a good idea to be in the committee as well as my current position as a shelter advocate. A lot of people applied, few people showed up. I am willing to stay on my seat if it is necessary for continuity; i do want to speak on behalf of julia, nick and andrew. Nick is my coworker. I think it is very important as he said that the client advocate position be on the committee. We go to the shelters all the time. If the unique perspective. Julia is very dedicated, hardworking. That seat historically has been difficult to fill because of childcare issues; she has that covered, she assured me of that. She would be great. She speaks spanish. Andrew as well. He is a very personable gentleman; he works well with people. He is very dedicated and does a lot of volunteer at the coalition. All of the three candidates would be great. To help out and to be open and understanding. The majority of the latin speakers out there, they come from their countries; they dont know how to read their own language. You are helping them reach their own language. And also interpret for them there are many homeless shelters that are in need of understanding why they are homeless. They understand the situation. When they have been there longer than expected, that is when they need help to understand. You need to understand that connecting them to those agencies does not mean that they will move quickly. It takes time. The latin speaking community, they need to get out there. They need to come in and start helping out an understanding that it is really a great achievement. It is helpful to everyone. Although i feel there is expertise in doing community work, and working with certainly around the leand avenue area, that is a significant public service. I think someone representing a low income seat, i look for keywords, concerned with demographic changes, poverty. I just wasnt hearing that. I think it is important if we are going to be having a seat looking at overseeing how we do development; how different agencies work together; that we have a clear lens perspective that is real concerns about low income people at heart. I did not hear that coming. Not to say that the person does not have qualifications in other ways. For this seat, i want to make sure we are able to maintain that perspective. Comments to take complaints from clients. All of our research are now in spanish and english, particularly when we do screening or surveying. If i go out and my spanish is muy mal, i can give the document in spanish and i can write comments later and have them translated later.
