MetService has issued a Heavy Swell Warning for 41 hours between 6am Tuesday and 11pm Wednesday. It covers the coastline between Sinclair Head and Baring Head. In April last year, five homes had to be evacuated after six metre waves flooded roads and front yards between Owhiro and Breaker Bay. One person was knocked over by the waves and had to be taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

MetService has issued a warning for Wellington from 6am on Tuesday to 11pm on Wednesday. The southerly swells are due from Baring Head to Sinclair Head at Ōwhiro Bay, and the biggest risk period is high tides on Tuesday 8.24am and 8.54pm and on Wednesday at 9.18am and 9.48pm. Swells will ease by Wednesday, dropping to around 4 metres. WREMO warns that people living close to surf exposed coastlines should be prepared for the possibility of waves and debris on roads.

Police find items belonging to missing Wellington kayaker on seabed

Koyren Campbell has been missing since Sunday, when his kayak was found off Wellington s South Coast. Campbell’s kayak, which he had been fishing from, was found floating in Tarakena Bay, near Moa Point, on Sunday afternoon. The search involved the police dive squad, teams of land searchers, an Air Force helicopter, and police launch Lady Elizabeth IV. The search would cover an area from Sinclair Head, west of Owhiro Bay and Red Rocks, to Palliser Bay in Wairarapa.
