Kuching Archbishop Simon Poh has expressed his gratitude to UNIFOR for the new SOP dated February 15, which granted permission to churches in Green and Yellow Zones to reopen. Depending on the size of the church, maximum capacity is limited to only 100 persons.
Masses in most parishes will commence on Feb 20 and 21 to celebrate the Sunset and Sunday Masses for the 1
st Sunday of Lent. Parishioners are to check with their respective Parish Rectors for reopening schedules and to comply with any updated information and directive.
Churches in kampongs or in areas where active COVID-19 clusters are still present are not allowed to reopen. Sarawak is still under CMCO until March 1, with many active and new clusters.

Year of the Ox 2021, will be remembered by Catholics as a year when they had to forgo the tradition of attending a Chinese New Year Thanksgiving Mass in Church, and having their New Year oranges blessed.
Except for live-streaming Masses, all Church services had been suspended since 13 January under the state’s COVID-19 CMCO.

The RCIA 2019/2020 (English) course concluded with Masses held on 19 and 20 December 2020 respectively, celebrated by the Rector of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fr Patrick Heng.
A total of 37 catechumens had successfully completed the course after a prolonged delay due to the pandemic.
The weekend Masses saw 27 catechumens going through the Rite of Initiation. Two (2) baptised Christian converts were received into the Catholic Church, while eight (8) received only the sacrament of Confirmation.
Archbishop Simon Poh had granted Fr Patrick Heng the faculty to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation.
The catechumens varied in ages from 18 years to 67 years old and were of different social backgrounds – different ethnic groups, university students, retirees, housewives and professionals.
