This afternoon the Irish Exporters Association (IEA) has largely welcomed the announcement by the UK Government to delay the post-Brexit checks on EU goods coming into Great Britain by six months.
The delay, which was announced by Michael Gove MP, gives Irish and UK businesses more time to prepare.
The CEO of the Irish Exporters Association Simon McKeever believes that while Irish exporters have more time to prepare, we have concerns about the impact that the delaying of deadlines is having to Irish businesses’ preparations and in a wider context, the overall impact to EU – UK relations.

The Irish Exporters Association (IEA) has welcomed the publication of the European Commission’s renewed trade strategy which puts sustainability central stage in the EU trade agenda.
The Commission’s renewed strategy comes at a crucial time for businesses throughout the EU that are aiming to charter a way forward in the wake of Covid-19. The renewed strategy is particularly important for Irish exporters that may be looking to diversify into new markets post-Brexit.

The talking has pretty much ended, but the practicalities of Brexit became apparent very quickly when consumers were suddenly faced with the occasional empty supermarket shelf in the early days of January and the news that Percy Pig may not grace their sweet bowls anymore.
