Heritage advocates call on council to save Robert McLaughlin House Posted on February 17, 2021 by oshawaexpress in CITY, NEWS By Courtney Bachar/The Oshawa Express/LJI Reporter A group of local heritage advocates have come together to try to save the Robert McLaughlin House on Simcoe Street North from being torn down. To date, a petition has garnered just under 2,000 signatures ahead of Monday’s council meeting in the hopes of saving the home from demolition. Heritage advocate Cathy Clarke, who started the petition, says the fact the petition has garnered as much support as it has in less than a week shows there is a desire to keep the building and that other options should be entertained.

Vulnerable Oshawa man missing  (Photo courtesy DRPS) Police are searching for a vulnerable Oshawa man who was last seen two weeks ago in downtown Oshawa. Artin Kiani, 35, was last seen in the downtown Oshawa area on Jan. 23. His family has not heard from him over the past two weeks and have concerns for his wellbeing. Police say he has gone missing before and has been found in Toronto and the Niagara areas. Kiani, who sometimes uses aliases of Onell, Oneil, or Odell, is described as a 5’10” man with a medium build, short black hair and possibly shaved eyebrows. It is unknown what he may be wearing.

Midday collision in Oshawa sends one to hospital Posted on January 19, 2021 by oshawaexpress in CRIME An Oshawa man is recovering in hospital after a car crash in Oshawa Monday afternoon. Police were called to a two-vehicle collision at the Simcoe Street North and Conlin Road intersection on Monday, Jan. 18 around 4:30 p.m. A 65-year-old male driver received severe, but non-life threatening injuries as a result of the collision. He was transported to Lakeridge Health Oshawa where he remains in stable condition. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and was treated and released by Durham Region Paramedic Services on scene. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

One dead, another injured at Ontario Tech construction site Posted on December 15, 2020 by oshawaexpress in NEWS, POLICE (Photo credit: Colin Williamson) A construction worker has died and another injured after an accident at a construction site at Ontario Tech University. The incident occurred at the Ontario Tech campus near Simcoe Street North and Conlin Road around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday. A concrete slab had fallen onto the two workers. One of the workers was pronounced dead at the scene and the other worker was transported by Ornge to hospital. The Ministry of Labour was called in to investigate.
