The fire started due to a short circuit in the control panel of a radiant baby warmer inside the SNCU which spread across the unit due to the inflammable material inside the unit.
MUMBAI: Nearly two weeks after the Bhandara fire incident, in which 10 newborns died at the district hospital, the public health department has ordered action against seven staffers of the hospitals including suspension of the district civil surgeon.
Public health minister Rajesh Tope said that department received the report of the inquiry committee led by divisional commissioner Sajeev Kumar late on Wednesday evening.
After going through the report it has been decided to suspend the civil surgeon Dr Pramod Khandate, medical officer on duty Dr Archana Mesharm and the sister in-charge Jyoti Bharaskar.

Mumbai: In the latest development in Bhandara fire tragedy, the state probe committee in its findings have said that the on duty nurses were absent from the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of Bhandara District General Hospital at the time of the tragic incident, sources said.
Times Now’s Rakesh reported that the probe committee in its 50-page report, which has been submitted to Maharashtra health secretary, has said that a baby warmer at the SNCU caught fire due to a short circuit. Nagpur: With no more VIP visits expected now, the Bhandara district general hospital on Thursday discharged two babies out of the seven which survived the January 9 fire incident in its Sick Newborn Care Unit on the first floor. The mothers were allotted beds on the floor above in ward numbers 10 and 11.
Following the incident, the parents were reluctant to keep their babies at the hospital, which had shifted the infants to its family welfare section for the time being. In fact, some of the babies were to be discharged on January 9 itself but it got postponed after doctors got busy with damage control.
