Malaysian health authorities said on Friday conditional approval had been granted for AstraZeneca s COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Siam Bioscience Co in Thailand.
Health Ministry director-general, Noor Hisham Abdullah, said in a statement the vaccine supply received from Thailand is expected to speed up implementation of Malaysia s national vaccination programme.
The government had previously put the AstraZeneca vaccine in a parallel optional programme after reports of possible links to very rare blood clots. read more
But the vaccine was brought back into the national immunisation programme last week after hundreds of thousands of people scrambled to get the shot.

THAILAND: The price for a package of two shots of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine offered by private hospitals will be no more than B3,000, hospital executives say.

PUTRAJAYA – Malaysia will continuously evaluate all types of COVID-19 vaccines being developed including the nasal spray type for the immunisation programme, said Coordinating Minister for the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme, Khairy Jamaluddin.
However, he said Malaysia currently had made adequate COVID-19 vaccine bookings for the use of the population in the country.

“Malaysia has ordered enough vaccine to cover 110 per cent of our population.
“If we later decide that the nature of this pandemic has become endemic, that it is here to stay, then obviously there will be longer term procurement strategy for vaccines,” he said.
