India s flood early warning systems (EWSs) only cover a third of people exposed to extreme flood events, according to a report by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). Although 12 states are highly exposed to floods, only three of them have good access to EWSs, responding to a gap in planning. The report emphasised climate action and investment in EWSs and involving local communities.
In comparison to this, the cyclone EWS in the country is robust, with 100% people who live in cyclone vulnerable areas – that is 25% of India’s population, being covered by EWS.
