30% Pay Increase Proposed for Shreveport Mayor
The
Shreveport City Council is looking at a measure to approve a 30% pay raise for the Mayor. The Council will also take a close look at approving a 70% pay increase for members of the Shreveport Council. If approved, these increases would not go into effect until the beginning of the new terms of the Council and Mayor at the end of 2022.
Councilmen
Jerry Bowman have teamed up to put the pay increase proposals before the council.
The mayor’s salary would jump from $96,000 dollars to $125,000 dollars plus benefits including a car allowance. City Council members would receive $25,000 a year, up from the current $15,000 per year. The last time changes were made to the pay for the Council and the Mayor was back in 2002.

Even though the election is not until November 8, 2022, lots of locals are already starting to talk about the mayor s race in Shreveport.
Incumbent Adrian Perkins has already announced he is running for re-election. Analyst Scott Hughes says that early entry is likely an effort to clear the field and put people on notice that he is running. Republican Jim Taliaferro has also jumped in the race. Shreveport Council Chairman James Flurry says he s 90% sure he will join the race.
Several other possible candidates have been mentioned. Here s is our latest poll.
Shreveport Helping Several Non Profit Agencies
The Shreveport Council recently approved some extra funding for several of these agencies.
The money will come from the Riverfront Development Special Revenue Fund.

Betty & Leonard Phillips Deaf Action Center $5,000
The total is $135,000 and will help these agencies continue to work through the challenges we have been facing this year.
