colleagues. quite a few of my colleagues are in the freedom caucus are friends of mine. they are representing their district i believe, and i try to represent my district to the best of my ability. in my district this bill is overwhelmingly unpopular in the telephone calls we have received, the e-mails we ve received. of course, new jersey was one of the states that expanded medicaid. we have this ad running in your district right now. here is a little bit of it. congressman lance promised, don t fall for fake repeal. vote no on ryancare and get rid of obamacare for good. 2018 not a shoo-in for you. but what will you say, congressman, if this fails and you go back to your constituents, many of whom voted for the president and ran largely on this, on a promise on day one to repeal and replace
clinton who polls showed was a shoo-in for the presidency. it was vintage trump. the trump people voted for the outsider, thursday trump was dismantling the hostile media in the briefing room and shouting to his base, to the deplorables and they loved it. the media, not so much. they whined, they moaned and generally offended by the event so much so they failed to cover a far more important moment later in that day. after the epic press conference, president trump signed legislation that rolls back onerous regulations on the coal industry, therefore freeing an industry to hire more americans for jobs right here in america. west virginia, kentucky, pennsylvania, ohio among others. president trump we thank you very much for everything that you ve done for us, everything you re doing for our industry is very much needed. i ve been mining in this industry for 40 years and this is a very exciting time for our industry. eric: you see, that s where the trump rubber meets the road, jobs. so
officers, some ways the critical dynamic will be republicans. it is rare for cabinet nominees to be defeated. the last one was john tower in 1989. when you look at the fact that how many republican senators have raised questions about the executive order on immigration, they now have a point of leverage on the nomination of senator sessions to the attorney general. there are only 52 republicans, republicans who are questioning the order would say that they were unwilling to vote for him without some changes, that would be their point of leverage. i think donald trump is a student of power. republicans raised objections to rex tillerson and then voted for him. if we see the same thing again on the executive or dern and attorney general, i wouldn t be surprised if he concludes, all talk and no action. everyone is saying it s a shoo-in, he s going to get confirmed. might he not now? i think the opposition is serious. he more so than others has been a lightning rod.
even assisted donald trump businesses in the past. is there anything on mr. ross resume or business record that raises red flags or is wilbur ross a shoe int shoo-in to be tt commerce secretary. the president-elect s nominees showed a great diversity of experience whether it s in the private sector like mr. ross or the military like general mattis. one thing i m pleased about for with the nominee for the commerce department is the focus on growing the economy. it s something all americans want. and wilbur ross has a strong record of knowing how to do that. i m going to ask questions about how important it is to start unleashing the american private
made these numbers look silly. there s been a lot of focus, especially in politics, on how pollsters go the it wrong. the bigger lesson for those of us in the media is to not worry so much about predicting the future. as journalists, we will report on what is actually happening. history matters, but history is made to not be repeated sometimes, too. so maybe we shouldn t try to offer odds on what may happen. but since nothing has been turning out how anyone predicted it would, with the nfl playoffs around the corner, it might be time to start shorting the new england patriots and thinking that they are some shoo-in for the super bowl. that s all for this first sunday of 2017. thanks for watching. have a safe and happy new year. enjoy all the football in the next 48 hours. because we ll be back next week, because in 2017, as always, if it s sunday, it s meet the press.
