The appeal from the Indian High Commission came after the poster for a documentary directed by filmmaker Leena Manimekalai drew drawn flak on social media for hurting religious sentiments for its depiction of Goddess Kaali.
The Delhi police have registered FIRs against the makers of the movie ‘Kaali’ over its poster that allegedly depicts the Hindu goddess smoking a cigarette.
The controversy erupted after the Canada-based Indian origin filmmaker took to Twitter to share a poster of her film which depicted a woman dressed in a costume portraying the Goddess and smoking. A flag of the LGBT community is seen in the background.
