VOTING has begun in the North Isles council by-election. The by-election is taking place because only two candidates came forward for the ward’s three seats in May’s local government election. Polling is taking place between 7am and 10pm today (Thursday), with the results.
Former BBC broadcaster Tom Morton says it was to his "utter astonishment" he found himself elected to Shetland Islands Council without a single vote being cast.
EXPENSES returns show that the spend from candidates in the recent council election campaign stretched from zero through to nearly £800. Candidates had a limit on the amount they could spend on their campaign, and they were required to submit a total of their expenses after.
