Thank you for being with me. Lets listen to the sound. Okay. I thought we had the sound. Lets go to your interview with ms. Fox. You say she says theres a lot of confusion, the chance smollett would have gotten a prison sentence if convicted was slim. How does she explain that . I think the bigger issue here is one of what happens i think what fox and my own experience reflects this as well what fox would say is disposing of cases efficiently and quickly in the criminal Justice System. Our criminal Justice System has gotten very, very good at pushing through these cases, and so, you know, cook county courts which includes chicago and then the cook county suburbs, they put thousands and thousands and thousands of cases through the court system every year and many of those are disposed of relatively early. I think this case is earlier than a lot of them so this one went particularly fast, but kim fox said, look, a lot of them we know before the first hearing how were going to dispose of
I would not be my mothers son if i was capable of one drop ive been accused of. This has been an incredibly difficult time, honestly the worst of my entire life. But i am a man of faith and i am a man that has knowledge of my history, and i would not bring my family, our lives or the movement to a fire like this. I just wouldnt. Now id like nothing more than to just get back to work and move on with my life. But make no mistake, i will always continue to fight for the justice, equality and betterment of marginalized lives everywhere. We have ryan young at the cook county courthouse. There are still so many questions here. Tell us about this decision. Reporter this is exaspirating. We had a call early this morning that we had to get to the courtroom. If you think about this, this story, this case, has been a head scratcher from the very beginning. Of course, when we arrived here there was a rumor that charges would be dropped. Of course, when you talk to all the folks who work for the P
Five to eight minutes after these officers entered the building they made contact and engaged with the suspect on the second floor of the building. I cant tell you how many shots a minute were being fired and in the police world anything more than three to five shots is a long gun battle. As the suspect was firing he was moving. They were returning fire and at one point the suspect was firing through the door and through the wall at the officers and then the firing stopped. They eventually breached a door, and when they breached the door the suspect was alive and taken into custody and first aid was immediately rendered to him. The 40yearold suspect Dewayne Craddock later died at a Virginia Beach hospital. Four other victims are still being hospitalized. For more on these developments lets bring in crime and justice correspondent shime owen prokupecz. What are we learning about the suspect and possible motives for the snoogt yes, we know hes resigned, and there still has to be underlyi
