that could protect other families from suffering this overwhelming pain and sense of loss. and please continue to keep my family in your prayers as we continue to mourn the loss and navigate the world without our beloved stephon clark. let s talk more about this now with sheryl dorsey and andrew jerkaski. thank you both for your time. sheryl, starting with you, from a law enforcement perspective, the district attorney said it was a gun, turned out it was a cell phone. your reaction to the d.a. s decision? well, as a supervisor, someone who reviewed the use of force in the past, what i hear is code speak and double talk from the prosecutor. police officers are trained to know what they re shooting at. we have shoot, don t shoot scenarios all the time because
his personalality that should have been given them pause? did he utter something or act in a way that was very different in the days leading up to this? there s so much that we don t know. we do know, according to police, this is a young man, somebody in his 20s they believe. sheryl, does that strike you given when we see some of these killers that we ve covered in the past, these mass killers, that sounds familiar? well, he certainly seems to fit the profile, if you will. a young man with issues, why, we don t know, access to guns that, you know, i don t know why a young 20 something would have at least as its reported more than one weapon and again as a mother, i m the kind of person, i joke and say, i keep a search warrant. i go in my kids room all the time when they were living with me and so, i don t know how you do this and how you amass this kind of weaponry if you live with your parents and they know
hospitals are coordinating patient care so that suggests that there are multiple victims who were we know life flighted there, many of them, we also saw a lot of ambulances on scene there. sheryl, when you hear just the age range of the victims, does that tell you that this is a shooter who was indiscriminate in terms of who he shot? oh, absolutely. he came there with the specific intent of doing harm without any regard to age, sex, if you will. he came there to inflict great carnage and that s exactly what he did. as i m listening, as a mom, right, this breaks my heart. i could not imagine sending my child to church and finding out later that this kind of event occurred, but as a mother with young sons, i m wondering what his parents might think or know about what he was doing in the days that led up to this, were these weapons maintained at home? was there anything going on in
necessarily? it would have to be. you could not have done this type of carnage in that amount of time with a bolt action li . rifle. had to be a semiautomatic weapon with a detachable magazine. don t know the size of the detachable magazine. you could not have done this type of damage in that short amount of time with a bolt action hunting rifle. i want to get sheryl dorsey into the conversation as well. this church we know recorded its sermons and the sheriff told us this attack was, in fact, recorded on videotape. in fact, the person making the recording he says is at the hospital, not necessarily because he was shot, but he is among those who were taken to the hospital. what will investigators be looking for on this recording? well, they re going to look for anything that will help them identify, obviously, how the shooter was able to gain access into the church sanctuary and what action was taken once he got in there. and so understand that most oftentimes cameras are positio
