Conditions early this morning. He spotted several snow plows working the side streets of des moines and much of the metro. One of our producers spotted 14 cars in the ditch off of interstate 35, just north of the metro. Many of those cars could still be in the ditches this morning, so keep an eye out for them. We also have reports coming in that i235 and 35 80 are pretty clear. But also a reminder that the wind may shift some of the snow and start to cover some areas again. It was a dramatic rescue near adel last night when a car slid off the road into a creek. The car wound up partially submerged. Emergency crews battled wind and the elements to get the male driver out of the car and to safety. Were told he was conscious and taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. Happened. The car was traveling westbound here on highway 20, got off of this exit which is 140 going in to webster city when the driver lost control and the car rolled several times in that ditch. Out by the exit ramp, debris is thrown all over the shoulder. Two people, including the driver, 19yearold Richard Elmore of hopkins, south carolina, were killed in the crash. 22yearold shelly coenen from tomah, wisconsin was ejected from the car and died at the hospital. The iowa state patrol reports a mother and her three daughters inside, when the vehicle slid across the interstate and rolled multiple times down a ditch close to the Iowa Speedway exit. It claimed the life of the 39yearold driver and her 11yearold daughter. Not far away, 76yearold Judith Beadle of oskaloosa died after this vehicle slammed into a tree off highway 163 in pella.
