Happened. The car was traveling westbound here on highway 20, got off of this exit which is 140 going in to webster city when the driver lost control and the car rolled several times in that ditch. Out by the exit ramp, debris is thrown all over the shoulder. Two people, including the driver, 19yearold Richard Elmore of hopkins, south carolina, were killed in the crash. 22yearold shelly coenen from tomah, wisconsin was ejected from the car and died at the hospital. It happened late monday night just before midnight. In this video, you can see the two toned 1998 Ford Explorer is totaled. All the back windows smashed, the windshield caved in. In another view, you see damage showing the tell tale signs of a rollover crash. Four passengers from sioux city, 16yearold breanna leners, and 3 18yearolds angelo hernandez, bret seibold, and Meaghan Stiverson were taken to area hospitals. A 13yearold listed as a runaway was released from the hospital and taken into custody. Her name has not been released. The iowa state patrol says alcohol and drugs are believed to be factors in the crash. Troopers say all 7 of them were friends, but they are still investigating why they were traveling together. The driver was wearing his seatbelt. Only one of the passengers was wearing his. They were cramming in there. So there was 3 in the middle two middle, two in the front, and two back in the back of a Ford Explorer that didnt have seats so it would have been that hatchback area, the back of the trunk. If theres no seat and no seatbelt its probably not a good idea to travel in there, its not safe for everybody. Police say around 1 00 this morning 3 suspects broke into , this Apartment Building in the 900 block of 18th street in the sherman hill neighborhood. The man who lives here tells me the suspects got the wrong apartment. Cardboard now covers where brandt scott says 3 armed men busted through his door and spent about a minute in his apartment terrorizing his family. When i hear my kids screaming my heart just got in my throat. ,kim 13yearold sarah scott says the men came into her room and held a gun to her head. She watched helplessly as the men smacked the gun against her 15yearold sisters head twice, chipping her teeth. Normally, people cant remember other people but when you have a gun pointed to your face, you remember them. Kim brandt tells me the suspects then moved to the living room, holding his stepson the unsaved, screaming where , are the drugs . Brandt says they got the wrong apartment. The suspects left after just a minute after not finding drugs. Theyre being described as black males between the ages of 17 and 20. Kevin an ames man is convicted of murdering a friend. A jury finds leigh lepon guilty of Second Degree murder in the death of devlin lockman. The verdict was reached just before 4 00 this afternoon. The former School Transportation director of webster city is getting his job back after he pleaded guilty last month of felony assault. Ted larson was webster citys High School Wrestling coach and transportation director. He was placed on administrative leave when he was arrested for assaulting a man in that mans home. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison, but that sentenced was reduced to probation. Radio iowa reports, last night, the school board voted to give him his transportation job back. Unity point health says its getting into the insurance business. Unity point says its teaming up with Health Partners to create a new insurance company. Kccis Marcus Mcintosh spoke to local Muslim Leaders. Marcus we spoke with two central iowa Muslim Leaders who say only is the anti muslim backlash in the u. S. Unfair, but also the fact they are being lumped in with terrorists who lay claim to islam. The vandalism at a mosque near austin, texas and the bomb threat to a mosque in florida are likely the result of the deadly terror attacks in paris. Local Muslim Leaders say they have not felt that backlash here in central iowa, but that does not mean they cannot feel the pain of muslims in other parts of the country. They say it is disheartening and disappointing that terrorist who hijack their religion and give them a bad name. The majority of muslims do not think that these people represent islam because they are not muslims at all. Muslims dont kill innocent people. On a whole dynamic that is an affront to the islamic discipline and religion itself. Kevin the fight to change laws that govern medical hemp oil has taking a central iowa woman to washington dc this week. She and a group of mothers from around the country are meeting with members of congress. Stacey Mark Tauscheck spoke with her this afternoon. Mark at issue is therapeutic hemp oil, which many iowa patients are using now because they cant legally acquire medical cannabis oil. At the federal level, hemp oil is considered a version of marijuana, which makes it illegal to ship across state lines so this group is trying to , get it pulled off the federal drug schedule, taking it out of the definition of marijuana entirely. Sally gaer gets her daughters therapeutic hemp oil from a Colorado Company in the mail. Iowa allows possession of the product, which sally gaer says has helped her daughter margaret during the 6 months shes taken taken it. I would say her seizures have decreased 50 , shes sleeping way better, shes making some cognitive gains, shes not so doped up. Weve decreased one of her seizure medications by a third. Mark margaret cant legally travel out of state and use the drugs and acquiring it is techincallly breaking federal law. Gaer and several other mothers are now in washington dc meeting with members of congress from more states than she could count including iowa senators charles , grassley and joni ernst. Both told the group they want to educate themselves more on therapeutic hemp oil before pushing to remove it from the same drug class as marijuana. As far as the fight to improve iowas medical marijuana laws that so far no one has been able to use, gaer says she and the group of medical marijuana advocates will be back at the capitol again next session only if people with other ailments, like ptsd, ms, chronic pain, are willing to stand with them.
