Did you know that much of the filming for the musical remake of film classic
Goodbye Mr Chips was done in Dorset? The 1969 remake starring Peter O Toole and Petula Clark is based on the original film - a quintessentially low-key British affair set in a public school, an adaptation of James Hilton s 1934 novel. It tells of a shy, withdrawn schoolteacher who falls for a flashy showgirl. Excitingly for Dorset residents in 1968, some its scenes were filmed in Sherborne. As you can see there were many extras used for the filming. We d love to hear from anyone who donned a boater hat to play a small part in the film!
