The 1969 remake starring Peter O'Toole and Petula Clark is based on the original film - a quintessentially low-key British affair set in a public school, an adaptation of James Hilton's 1934 novel.
It tells of a shy, withdrawn schoolteacher who falls for a flashy showgirl.
Excitingly for Dorset residents in 1968, some its scenes were filmed in Sherborne.
As you can see there were many extras used for the filming. We'd love to hear from anyone who donned a boater hat to play a small part in the film!
