Students give back to community amid pandemic’s financial hardships

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Usually student organizations and youth sorts get a lot of financial help from local sponsors, and can always count on the local small businesses and restaurants to pitch in.
But as the coronavirus pandemic leaves many restaurants reeling, some Macomb County students have launched a campaign to raise money for them instead.
The students at Shelby Junior High School in Shelby Township have launched an effort that they call “reverse fundraising” to help encourage people to patronize local restaurants. The students on student council wanted to help pitch in, saying it was the “right thing to do.”
