In honor of Women’s History Month, Westport Country Playhouse will host a virtual storytelling of original works written by female members of the community about women who changed history, on Tuesday, March 30, at 7 p.m. Registration is necessary to access the broadcast on the Playhouse’s YouTube channel (WestportPlayhouse). The event will be the second presentation in the theater’s “New Works/New Voices” series; the first was in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in January.
“Phenomenal Women Inspire” will feature stories about the following five outstanding women, each representing different periods of history: Constance Baker Motley, born in New Haven in 1921 and the first African American woman to be named a federal court judge in 1966; Mary Freeman, born in Derby, CT, in 1815, and who, with her sister Eliza, developed, bought, and sold real estate in Bridgeport before women had the right to vote; Mary McLeod Bethun

A severe bone bruise to the ankle in a gymnastics meet on Feb. 16 had forced all-state Glenbrook South senior Sheena Graham to ditch her floor exercise and vault routines and try her best performing on uneven bars and balance beam. Graham s effort was more than enough on March 6 at the virtual Central Suburban League South meet, which also served as the Titans senior night. Despite the injury, Graham won both her events, and with teammates such as all-around winner Thalia Skoulikaris, led Glenbrook South to a repeat CSL South title. A Titans co-captain, Graham also repeated as conference champion on beam, scoring a 9.55, and won her other event, bars, at 9.40. The all-around winner at both her 2020 regional and sectional meets and tied for sixth in all-around at the 2020 state meet, Graham will compete in college at Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

A room that used to be a music room at Harding High School has been switched to a regular classroom because more rooms were needed as students attend class in a smaller size.
Harding High School Music Teacher Sheena Graham expects a lot to be different when all of her students come back full-time as the COVID pandemic wanes.
Harding and other schools in Bridgeport are going to need more staff to help teachers get students caught up as well as school counselors, she said.
“It’s having all the social-emotional skills, and having additional people in that area, because coming back is going to be challenging, depending on how your family has suffered through the pandemic,” she said. “We may need more counselors on hand to deal with all of the needs, even for the adults.”
