ASHEVILLE, N.C. The National Park Service says a North Carolina man has been killed in a motorcycle crash on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
News outlets report a statement from the National Park Service says 39-year-old Shawn Emory of Weaverville died on July 31. According to the park service, a preliminary investigation shows Emory was heading south in an uphill curve when he lost control of the motorcycle, which struck the guard rail. Emory was thrown from the motorcycle.

A Weaverville man died July 31 in a single-vehicle collision on his motorcycle on the Blue Ridge Parkway, according to a statement from the National Park Service.
Shawn Emory, 38, of Weaverville, the motorcycle driver, was pronounced dead later that day at a local hospital, the news release said.
Parkway dispatchers received a report at 9:30 a.m. July 31 of a single motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle near Milepost 398, near the Chestnut Cove Overlook about 5 miles south of Asheville at the N.C. 191/Brevard Road intersection.
When rangers arrived on the scene, according to the news release, they observed the motorcycle laying on its side near the guard rail.
