Man dies in motorcycle crash on Blue Ridge Parkway A man riding his motorcycle died on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was the second death on the highway in less than a week. The National Park Service says a North Carolina man has been killed in a motorcycle crash on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  News outlets report a statement from the National Park Service says 39-year-old Shawn Emory of Weaverville died on July 31. According to the park service, a preliminary investigation shows Emory was heading south in an uphill curve when he lost control of the motorcycle, which struck the guard rail. Emory was thrown from the motorcycle.

View Comments A Weaverville man died July 31 in a single-vehicle collision on his motorcycle on the Blue Ridge Parkway, according to a statement from the National Park Service. Shawn Emory, 38, of Weaverville, the motorcycle driver, was pronounced dead later that day at a local hospital, the news release said.  Parkway dispatchers received a report at 9:30 a.m. July 31 of a single motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle near Milepost 398, near the Chestnut Cove Overlook about 5 miles south of Asheville at the N.C. 191/Brevard Road intersection. When rangers arrived on the scene, according to the news release, they observed the motorcycle laying on its side near the guard rail.
