YOU ASKED:The fountain at St. Andrews on the Square is cracked and unsightly. Also, the water is stagnant. A lot of people like to go out there and eat their lunch. When will the City fix it?
- Betty Holly
OUR ANSWER:We asked Shawn Cook about that. He s the City s parks supervisor and his department is responsible for maintaining the square.
He says the fountain is checked regularly as part of the department s water parks route. We stay on top of the maintenance of that fountain, said Cook.
During the winter, the fountain is off but crews clean it of fallen leaves or debris. They typically get the fountain flowing again on the Victoria Day weekend.

A couple in Luzerne County is accused of ripping off an elderly, bed-ridden victim. Author: Carolyn Blackburne Updated: 5:16 AM EDT April 14, 2021
HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. Police in Hanover Township say Shawn Cook and his girlfriend Tiffany Shotwell stole $8,000 from an elderly man with cerebral palsy.
That man was in Shotwell s care.
Police say Shotwell was a home caretaker at Scranton-based Valley Home Care and had the victim s debit card to buy groceries.
Instead, court paperwork shows the couple bought a cell phone, iPods, and a camera for themselves.
They also spent more than $500 at a build-a-bear workshop.
Police say the couple lives along Westminster Street in Wilkes-Barre.
