Family of student restrained by Ferris HS resource officer reaches $275K settlement with district

SPOKANE, Wash. Spokane Public Schools settled with the family of a student who was restrained by a school resource officer in January 2019.
The family of a Ferris High School student filed a lawsuit after school resource officer Shawn Audie kneeled on the neck of their son after he was involved in an argument over shoes. The incident sparked a protest at the high school days after the incident. Students believed what happened was racially motivated.
