pieces left over after violent storms battered six states. hello, i m bruce johnson and thanks for joining us this sunday night. virginia s governor mcdonnell declared a state of emergency after tornadoes and flash flooding costs millions in damage and left seven people dead. that same system roared into north carolina, considered the punching bag of the enormous storm. at least 22 people are dead in that state. hundreds of homeless. we begin our coverage in raleigh. reporter: this time lapse video shows menacing clouds descend owing raleigh, part of a storm system that spun off more than 240 tornadoes across 14 states. dang, look at that thing. reporter: that s a record number in the u.s. for a single storm system. all i could do was pray. reporter: jewel let lee and her husband live in the worst- hit area. tornadoes tore houses from their foundations, crushed cars and left behind yards filled with destruction. out the front window, i seen this twister come. it w
