The pre-election budget presented by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman does not have region-specific announcements. People in North Karnataka are expecting more sops when a full-fledged budget is presented after the new government is in place. The Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industries expressed regret over the finance minister not announcing any proposal to introduce a GST amnesty scheme. Welcoming the proposal to establish separate railway corridors for the transportation of cement, steel, and electricity, KCCI urged the Central government to set up this corridor in North Karnataka as it will help boost industrial development in the region. Economist Prof BH Nagoor termed the budget as the most prudent budget.
