The pre-election budget presented by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman does not have region-specific announcements. People in North Karnataka are expecting more sops when a full-fledged budget is presented after the new government is in place. The Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industries expressed regret over the finance minister not announcing any proposal to introduce a GST amnesty scheme. Welcoming the proposal to establish separate railway corridors for the transportation of cement, steel, and electricity, KCCI urged the Central government to set up this corridor in North Karnataka as it will help boost industrial development in the region. Economist Prof BH Nagoor termed the budget as the most prudent budget. Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar welcomed the budget saying it lays emphasis on youth empowerment, farmers’ welfare, Naari Shakti, and welfare of the poor and thus is complimentary to the overall development of the country. Kalyana Karnataka Chamber Of Commerce and Industries chairman Shashikanth Patil said there is nothing new in the Union Budget as it is an interim budget and old taxations have been continued. He welcomed the allocation of the budget for the production of 40,000 new coaches for Vande Bharat trains. He also said the Union Budget does not give any boost for MSMEs, which was expected and also it didn’t mention the expansion of the textile park.
