MOUNT STERLING A date has been set for the jury trial of three former Western Illinois Correctional Center corrections officers facing federal charges stemming from a 2018 assault that resulted in a prisoner’s death.
Former corrections officers Todd Sheffler of Mendon, Willie Hedden of Mount Sterling and Alex Banta of Quincy will go on trial April 6. They will appear at a status hearing online March 9, according to Sharon Paul, public information officer for the U.S Attorney’s Office Central Illinois District.

One more woman, who was subjected to sexual assault and blackmail in Pollachi, has given a statement before a magistrate in Coimbatore implicating the accused.
Sources said the woman recorded her statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before a magistrate in charge of the additional mahila court on Monday.
Five affected women With this, the number of affected women who have come forward to complain against the accused has increased to five.

MOUNT STERLING A deleted text was at the center of a Jan. 6 hearing involving three former correctional officers who are facing federal charges in a May 17, 2018, assault that led to the death of 65-year-old prisoner Larry Earvin at Western Illinois Correctional Center.
Former correctional officers Todd Sheffler, Willie Hedden and Alex Banta are facing charges. Sheffler was a lieutenant and Hedden and Banta’s supervisor.
Coimbatore: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday got two days custody of Haron Paul, 29, of Achipatti, an accused in the Pollachi sexual assault case.
CBI had filed a petition before the district mahila court on Friday, seeking five days custody of Paul. The petition came up for hearing on Monday. A police team led by inspector Deivasigamani produced Paul before the court from the Gobichettipalayam sub-jail.
After judge Nandhini Devi granted two days custody, CBI took Paul to an undisclosed place for interrogation.
K Arulanandam, 34, of Vadugapalayam, P Babu, 27 and Paul were arrested by CBI on January 6 in connection with the case.
