Stephen Alderton, 66, appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates Court on Saturday wearing a grey prison tracksuit. He was remanded in custody ahead of hearing on Monday.
Police arrested a 27-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman in a hotel near Cambridge, and a 66-year-old man in the Worcester area, on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
