A statement issued by the spokesman of the Police command in Katsina, SP Gambo Isah, on Sunday morning said, at about 10pm Saturday, a distress call was received by the Police that some Islamiyya students of Hizburrahim Islamiyya, Mahuta village were abducted.
“Numbering about 80, while on their way back from Maulud occasion celebrated at Unguwan Alkasim village, Dandume to Mahuta village, [they] were accosted by bandits, who had already kidnapped four persons and rustled 12 cows from Danbaure village, Funtua LGA, trying to escape into the forest.
On receipt of the report, “the DPO led Operations Puff Adder, Sharan Daji and Vigilante group to the area and engaged the bandits into a fierce gun duel.
“I told the students to disperse and this gave some of us the opportunity to hide.
“But because I was wearing dark clothes the attackers mistook me for one of their own. I held two students and we laid face down. Only few of the students had scratches on their bodies.”
Salihu thanked Allah the Almighty and security agencies, especially the army, police and vigilantes, for their timely response that led to their rescue.
He added: “All of the 84 students and 3 of us teachers have been rescued unhurt.”
Early Sunday police in Katsina State said they had rescued the abducted Islamiyya students after a gun duel with the abductors.

A combined team of security operatives on Saturday rescued 80 abducted pupils of Hizburrahim Islamiyya, an Islamic school in Mahuta, Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
This was made public in a statement issued on Sunday in Katsina by the Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina State,
Gambo Isah.
The statement said in part:
“On 19/12/2020 about 2200hrs, a distress call was received by DPO Dandume that some Islamiyya students of Hizburrahim Islamiyya, Mahuta village, Dandume, Katsina state, numbering about 80, while on their way back from Maulud occasion celebrated at Unguwan-Alkasim, Dandume to Mahuta, were accosted by bandits.
”The bandits had already kidnapped four persons and rustled 12 cows from Danbaure village, Funtua, and were trying to escape with them into the forest.
