Niger State Government on Thursday stepped up efforts to rescue students and workers of Government Science College, Kagara who were abducted on Wednesday.
A competent source, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, told one of our correspondents that officials of Niger and Zamfara state governments met some bandits at Dutsin Magaji of Kotonkoro forest in the Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State on Thursday evening.
The source stated, “The committee from Niger State went to Kotonkoro forest this evening where the bandits who allegedly took the students chose as meeting centre. Some officials of Zamfara State also joined them.”

Katsina, Dec. 20, 2020 A combined team of security operatives on Saturday rescued 80 abducted pupils of Hizburrahim Islamiyya, an Islamic school in Mahuta, Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
This was made public in a statement issued on Sunday in Katsina by the Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina State, Gambo Isah.
The statement said in part: “On 19/12/2020 about 2200hrs, a distress call was received by DPO Dandume that some Islamiyya students of Hizburrahim Islamiyya, Mahuta village, Dandume, Katsina state, numbering about 80, while on their way back from Maulud occasion celebrated at Unguwan-Alkasim, Dandume to Mahuta, were accosted by bandits.

Again, gunmen have abducted Katsina students. About 80 students were affected in the kidnap on Saturday night at Mahuta community in the Dandume Local Government Area of the state.
The victims have, however, been rescued by police and vigilante groups, who gave the gang a hot chase that ended in the rescue of the students.
The new development came just as news filtered in that the Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, was kidnapped and his driver killed in Benin City, the state capital.

The police in Katsina on Sunday confirmed the abduction of another set of 80 students from an Islamiya school in the state on Saturday night.
All the 80 students and another four victims have, however, been rescued by security operatives.
It was learnt that the 80 students were returning from an Islamic occasion when they ran into the bandits, who had earlier kidnapped the four victims and rustled some cows.
Following distress calls, security operatives moved in and tackled the bandits, leading to the rescue of the students and the four other victims.
According to the police, there was no casualty during the gun duel.
