Wild orchids on Cape Cod? Seeking the pink lady s slipper
PROVINCETOWN They are the glamorous show-stoppers of the forest. Pink lady s slippers, the wily and wild orchids, always a thrill to see and often pretty hard to find. I knew it was about time for them to bloom, so I trucked up to the Clapp s Pond conservation area, put on my flower detective hat and started poking around.
Lady s slippers might be the first flower name I learned as a kid. We would roam around the woods and stumble on one of these wicked weird-looking pink balloons, and then some kid-in-the-know would say don t pick it it s a $50 fine! That was a stunning thing to imagine: one pluck could send you to plant jail or at least cost you your life savings!

Right now would be a great time to do that because there’s state and federal funding available from the COVID relief plan and the Biden infrastructure bill,” she said.

PROVINCETOWN Select Board member Lise Balk King believes the board needs stability as the town navigates the COVID-19 virus pandemic and welcomes new leadership to Town Hall.
“We need the continuity, especially right now, because we’re in this time of crisis,” King said.
King is running on May 11 for re-election to a three-year seat on the Select Board. Leslie Sandberg and Oriana Conklin are also running.
As the virus outbreak swept across the nation, the town’s existing housing emergency was heightened, King said.
“It’s an important balancing act” as the town as a whole works to mitigate the virus, keep businesses open and find enough housing for summer employees, she said.
