High School Sports: Highlanders get conference road win over Panthers (1/21/21)

Thursday, January 21, 2021 Eureka Springs coach Brian Rambo says his Highlanders are determined to make the best of some tough circumstances this season. Such was the case last week when Eureka Springs beat Yellville-Summit 44-34 for a big conference win on the Panthers’ home court on Tuesday, Jan. 12. “It’s hard to win on the road in the conference,” Rambo said. “We went over there and shot the ball really well. We shot about 40 percent from the three-point line and about 52 percent overall.” Missing one of its top players, Yellville-Summit tried to slow the pace and limit the Highlanders’ possessions. The Panthers also geared their defense to slow down Eureka Springs’ top scorer, junior guard Matthew Lester.

After both the Highlanders and Lady Highlanders defeated Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy at home on Monday, Nov. 30, and then won at Decatur the following night, both teams were placed on quarantine later in the week because of COVID-19 concerns. “We’re down again,” said Highlanders coach Brian Rambo, whose team hadn’t played in two weeks before the game against Northwest Arkansas Classical. Sophomore post Shane Holloway and junior forward Kegley Ertel had 14 points apiece against Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy, while junior guard Braden Gerth added 11.
