Hillcrest Academy head basketball coach Dwight Gingerich continues to climb the all-time head coaching wins list in Iowa high school history.
Gingerich, who just completed his 38th year with the program, has compiled 696 career wins, sixth in the history of Iowa high school boys basketball. That total is most in state history for a coach at a single school. He passed former Beckman Catholic and Marquette Catholic coach Jim Squiers and his 686 wins during the most recent season. Gingerich has a 696-209 overall record at Hillcrest, leaving him behind only active coaches Dan Beck at Easton Valley, Mitch Osborn at Harlan, and Fred Parsons at Van Buren. He also trails retired coaches Al Marshall of Cascade and former WACO head coach Bob Hilmer who is the winningest coach in state history with 917 victories.

THE EDITOR: Following my previous reviews, I believe that the virtual offerings from our soca artistes and certain calypsonians during the Carnival 2021 period are still credible but only so much. There is determination though enduring success still awaits. TT should give them an “A” for effort. The problem is that more than effort is needed.
First of all, our artistes need to see themselves not only vying for a home-based feteing audience but as competitors in international show business. In other words, they have to think about events that will have as many elements of entertainment as possible.

THE EDITOR: At a time when Trinidadians and Tobagonians were steeped in anticipation of the yearly catharsis that is the bacchanal of Carnival came a pandemic that stopped the greatest street festival on Earth. The impact of no mas not only dulled the enthusiasm of the local population but left those in the diaspora out in the cold and denied them their annual pilgrimage to bask in two epic days of revelry in the burning sun.
But just as the people of this small country created the steel pan, the only musical instrument developed in the 20th century, these innovative people found ways to celebrate Carnival within the covid19 desert.
Public Service Announcement: Check on your Trininadian friends. Check on all of your Caribbean friends. They re not OK. Because for perhaps the first time in Caribbean history, that time of year has rolled around and the unthinkable has become real: Trinidad Carnival. Is. Cancelled.
To understand the appalling gravitas of this situation, try to imagine the cancellation of, say, Christmas. Or, broadly speaking, the event holy public ritual, really that motivates tens of thousands of people around the world to keep on keeping on amid the daily drudgeries and mundane indignities of this nine-to-five life, because they know that come February, there shall be an ecstatic release: They will be covered in oil or paint, drink in hand, shimmering costume on deck, dancing through the streets of Port of Spain and giving thanks for a life that is a grand gift wholly drugged by music, dance, joy and love.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A recent article in Forbes Magazine reveals Charlotte was in the top 10 for America’s cleanest cities.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t problem spots.
Some are right in the middle of the Center City. Some people say the Hal Marshall building is overloaded with trash coming from a homeless camp nearby.
“Trash, trash, trash,” custodian William Pegram said.
Pegram works as a custodian for a cleaning company contracted out by the county.
