but the frustration certainly hasn t gone away and i don t think it well. the sessions controversy comes as the white house deals with increasing internal friction. several administration officials telling fox news they are seriously concerned about losing their jobs now that anthony scaramucci has taken on the role of white house communications director. tomorrow the president looks to build on tonight s campaign style rally by making a major jobs announcement. the east room at 5:00 p.m. eastern and we will have all the details. for now, back to you. bret: kevin corke in youngstown, ohio. her to break down some of the biggest moments from the rally, the big news today and some of the headlines for tomorrow, chris stirewalt, howard kurtz. first, to the washington post story that says among other things, oh officials say
concepts advanced by the republicans. and they lost ten republicans on this vote. yeah, and even with the generous provisions, kind of like, i don t know, like being the smartest cable news host. i don t know. not a really tough competition. and it s, even with that, they aren t willing to hold any public hearings to have any public real discussion. they ve had fake senate debate time for it. but had no actual debate or discussion on the merits. it ll be interesting to me to see if the democrats are able to get anywhere with this plan they have to put dozens or hundreds of amendments up for consideration. given the fact that mcconnell said that he might allow that. well, i have someone i will ask about that. senator al franken. we will find out from him what s going on on the democratic strategy on the senate floor on health care, and he s in the thick of the sessions controversy in the senate so we
anyone affiliated with the trump campaign communicated with the russian government in the course of this campaign, what will you do? senator franken, i am not aware of any of those activities. i have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and i did not have communications with the russians. i am unable to comment. in the flurry of criticism that came after that remark, it came to light that many democrats had also met with him. house minority leader nancy pelosi denied meeting the ambassador, but politico found a 2010 photo with him. same with chuck schumer. senator claire mccaskill tweeted that despite despite having been on the arms committee for ten years, she had never met with him, she apparently forgot a 2010 tweet. indeed, in the midst of all of the sessions controversy, the ambassador was photographed of
russia. and, you know, he s basically been trying this whole week to push us away from the russia story. but in this case, if a fisa court was involved, that means that president obama had probable cause to think that there was something serious going on there. and this comes at the same time that we re learning about the president also pushing out all kinds of intelligence information at the end of his administration to try and make sure that that went on the record. and of course it comes on the heels as well of this whole sessions controversy. and what we re finding out now, thomas, is that these weren t just contacts between the trump campaign and the russians. this was contacts at very critical moments. first there was the flynn contacts which came around the sanctions. now we re finding out that sessions had the russian ambassador in his office at the very same time that it was
speech on tuesday at the capitol. he really energized republicans, put the democrats on the defensive, and then this sessions story blows up and he s the guy back on the defensive. so it seems like he wanted to distract from the sessions controversy but at the same time he brings us right back to it. so this might be politically at least shooting himself in the foot, and also as haiti mentioned, he s comparing this to watergate. well, not quite. nobody s breaking into the trump tower and wiretapping it. if obama, as trump says, went through a fisa court, this of course was created by the republicans anz an a anti-terror measure post 9/11 and you have to have probable cause. it s not like it s a politically motivated group. if all those things do come out, then, again, trump might be shooting himself in the foot as he s trying to distract from the sessions controversy. we re all in a wait and see moment, specifically for the substance of what he s saying but i haven t heard any
