CHANDIGARH: Faced by a shortage of Covid vaccines, Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday deferred Phase III of vaccination for the 18-45 age group, which was slated to begin on May 1. He also disclosed that vaccination at private health facilities will remain suspended from Saturday. Amarinder on Friday announced that due to non-availability of vaccine, Phase III of vaccination of the 18-45 age group cannot be started as scheduled.
He said as the balance of unutilised vaccines had to be returned to the Centre by all private health facilities by Friday evening, these facilities would have no vaccines to administer from Saturday for 45+ population, while they could not vaccinate 18-45 age group as they had no supplies for the same, said Amarinder.

NEW DELHI: The Serum Institute of India on Wednesday announced that the price of Covishield per dose for state governments has been reduced from Rs 400 to Rs 300. But there was no mention of its cost reduction to private hospitals indicating it will remain the same.
As per the statement issued by the company earlier, it had said that states will have to pay Rs 400 per shot of the vaccines while it will cost Rs 600 per shot to private hospitals.

Facing criticism over a new vaccine policy that could have people paying far more for a Covid shot, the government today put out a clarification. It said that vaccines procured by the central government would be provided free to states. However, the statement says nothing on the higher prices of vaccines sourced by states and private hospitals directly from the manufacturers.
