‘Unscrupulous fraudster’ resident in Kinlough has to come up with €15,000 or face 20 months in jail Reporter:   ); A Kinlough-based haulier that a judge described as “an unscrupulous fraudster” has been told to come up with €15,000 by this Thursday or face 20 months in jail. Sligo District Court was told how Edward Jason Sutherland Taylor with addresses at Melvin Fields, Kinlough, Co Leitrim and Rathneeeny, Laghey, Co Donegal had sent his lorry drivers on the road with false insurance certificates for a period of almost four years, from 2015 to 2019. Those drivers were then prosecuted for driving with no insurance and there were some claims as a result of road traffic accidents.

Man gets suspended sentence for Leitrim drug charges Reporter:   ); A Monasteraden man, who admitted charges of possession of and of selling cocaine and cannabis in Carrick-on-Shannon has been given an 11 month jail sentence suspended for two years, at Sligo District Court. Thirty-year-old Patrick Evans, Clogher, Monasteraden pleaded guilty to the charges that happened on September 20, 2019 at Rosebank Retail Park, Carrick-on-Shannon. Defence solicitor Tom MacSharry said the defendant, who appeared in custody via video link, was pleading guilty to the charges. There was also a report from his addiction counsellor before the court. Sergeant Derek Butler said that the drugs included €470 of cocaine, €171.86 of cannabis and the rest was ecstasy that was found in the car he was driving.

Leitrim man charged with having in excess of €13,000 of drugs for sale or supply Reporter:   ); A young Mohill man who, is charged with having drugs for sale or supply in excess of €13,000 in Sligo, was returned for Circuit Court trial next June, at last Thursday’s sitting of Sligo District Court. 23-year-old Eoin Heaney, Drumgowna, Mohill is charged with possession of MDMA for sale or supply at Ballinode on April 9, 2018. He is also charged with possession of the drug to the value of €810 for sale or supply on the same date and at the same location. The defendant is charged with possession of N-Ethydylpentylone for sale or supply to the value of €13,000 at Mulberry Park, Sligo on April 18, 2018.

Leitrim digger driver brings €3,200 to court to escape conviction Reporter:   ); A young Manorhamilton digger driver, who came up with a sum of €2,300 for charity, after pleading guilty to stealing a wallet and using credit cards to buy items while on a drinking spree, was given the Probation Act for stealing the wallet, at Sligo District Court. At an earlier sitting, 22-year-old Stephen Loughlin, Cloonlougher, Manorhamilton pleaded guilty to charges that he stole a wallet and credit cards belonging to another at Kelly’s Bar, Ballygawley on December 7, 2019. He also pleaded guilty to using a bank card at the Miner’s Bar, at Derrynavogey, Arigna to the value of €22.10 on December 8.

Neighbour from hell told by Judge he faces prison

A 44-year-old man who has been engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour towards neighbours has been told to desist or he will go to prison. A neighbour of Fran Clancy, of Yeats Heights, Ballytivnan told Sligo District Court that Clancy has been hanging out windows with an iron bar, threatening neighbours, and people have moved out of the area because of his behaviour. Mr John Reid, a former psychiatric nurse and neighbour, told the court Clancy told him he would cut Mr Reid s throat, threatened him with an iron bar from an upstairs window and acted in an aggressive way to Mr Reid and his partner.
