Opponent Watch 2023: Preview, Part 2

Part 1 can be found here. Part 2 is worse. Much worse. The teams are better, sure. It’s just that… oh, you’ll see. I feel bad, yet I apologize for nothing. More Road Ahead Indiana Last year: 4-8 (2-7 B1G), no bowl game Recap: In last year’s preview, I compared Indiana’s 2021 season (favorably, to be fair) with the Plague of Justinian. And by that standard, 2022 Indiana was pretty good. Way fewer boils. Significantly less vomiting. Generally less mass death and decay. Indiana was still bad. Their two P5 wins over Illinois in the opener and Michigan State in mid-November were best described as “inexplicable.” Against Michigan State, they completed ZERO passes in regulation and managed to win. But they won. Which still counts. And they played Maryland, Rutgers and Nebraska close, and hung with Michigan for about 2.5 quarters. Now they’ve been gutted by graduation and the portal. It might be Plague Time once again. When last we saw them: Of all Michigan’s mediocre

2022 MGoPhotos of the Game (Week 4): Maryland

Typically when photographing a sports team you want to position yourself such that the faces of the team you're covering are facing towards you (which would mean we are in the endzone that Michigan is trying to score in). This can change, of course, depending on the course of the game. If the other team has a world ending offense it makes more sense to go to the endzone they're scoring in for better photos because if the story of game becomes "Ohio State is going to score 60 points" then, well. that's the story we have to tell (sorry).  This game was. confusing at times in this regard. The last three weeks were pretty straight forward because the ball only really went one direction so the photographers were able to camp in the endzone more than a Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer server. Maryland's offense w

Opponent Watch 2022: Preview, Part 1

Greetings! I have missed you all. Last year was fun. Let’s do that again. For those of you who are new here, we like to spend a few minutes every week looking Michigan’s slate of opponents. As always, fair warning: This column it is for entertainment purposes only, and even that is a stretch. It does not constitute legal, medical, accounting, tax, or gambling advice. It also does not contain sufficient accuracy for the FDA to allow us to label it as “analysis”; we can only refer to it as “processed information byproduct.” On the bright side, it may be stored at room temperature, as that which is not good can never really go ‘bad.’ If you want real analysis, go purchase HTTV 2022 right now. It has a full, detailed, insightful breakdown of each of these teams. Except Rutgers. I wrote Rutgers. This column will contain typos, grammatical abominations, and glaring factual errors. When in doubt, they were intentional. This year’s schedule is bad. Very bad. Especially the fi
