Graham Cowles, the palaeornithologist who has died aged 92, was head of bird collections at the Natural History Museum. In 1974, on the island of Réunion, he discovered the remains of an extinct semi-flightless bird that proved pivotal in solving the mystery of the quasi-mythical “white dodo”.
“He is the first Bangladeshi ocean scientist to be in Antarctica for research work," said Abu Sharif Md. Mahbub-E-Kibria, Senior Scientific Officer and Head of the Environmental Oceanography and Climate Division of BORI.
