recognized. i want to thank the two leaders for what they have done today and what they have done even though i know some people tuning in my not understand what just happened. the understanding that has been reached and i want to thank senator flake and johnson and others is, we re not voting on anything else in this chamber relative to this issue until a global agreement has been reached between the president and these two leaders and the leader of house. there won t be test votes. not going to be tabling vote. the vice president has been over here with his members negotiating already. what this does, i think, is push this ahead to a negotiation that yields result and does the best we can to keep from shutting down government or if it does shut down, shutting down very briefly. i want to thank the two leaders for agreeing to go forward in
win. jimmy carter, gerald ford. george w. bush george w. bush. the idea wosh to damage trump in the primaries so he could not win the election. senator jeff flake says whether or not he runs he wants to see somebody run against president trump. he doesn t think president trump is a great president. he wants to see him challenged. the idea would be to weaken president trump and possibly to hurt him down the road. but the risk is that you lose the presidency to democrats. if these republicans like senator flake or john kasich are wanting to that happen. bill: do you think kasich and flake would be substantial? i agree with my colleague. listening to president trump especially his comment about women is just like you sit there and go what? what is he talking about? bill: on that point, go ahead. roll it. president trump: i have tremendous women support but if
them pause? we talk about this every day because it s critically important that congress pass a statute protecting the mueller investigation. we should have done it months ago. this president has tried to interfere in this investigation in so many different ways. the firing of the attorney general sessions was just the most recent attempt he s made to marginalize the investigation. overlooking mr. rosenstein as the next likely person, all this is aimed at trying to compromise the investigation. so, yes, i have talked to my republican colleagues and i ve urged them listen to senator flake. let s bring this bill to the floor, let s protect the mueller investigation. the president left this morning for the g-20 where he was scheduled to meet with vladimir putin. trump mentioned the meeting on his way out this morning. here he was. i probably will be meeting with president putin. we haven t terminated that meeting. i was thinking about it.
him have done. what s your reaction to that? i think he did do a variety of veterans day ceremonies honoring our troops. i think the troops respect the fact that we do have a white house investing in the military for the first time in a lock time. as a veteran i appreciate that. i appreciate the effort to get tough on china and reorient our entire strategy. the best thing we can do is find out what can we do to make our patch of grass better than how we found it. you mentioned the honor flight, this is a beautiful thing, we have democrats, republicans, independents, people of all stripes coming together to honor our veterans service and sacrifice and i think that s a great thing. that s a great program. congressman mike gallagher, thank you very much and thanks for all you have given this country. thank you. coming up on morning joe, jeff flake says somebody needs to challenge donald trump for the republican nomination in 2020. we will ask him if he is that somebody. senator
but trump s appointment of matthew whitaker as acting attorney general has drawn concern about mueller s future. whitaker will oversee the probe in his new role and has in the past raised questions about the legitimacy of the investigation and mueller s appointment as special counsel. meanwhile, senator jeff flake and fellow judiciary member chris coons will be pushing to protect mueller. joining me is senator chris coons. it s good to see you after i feel like it s been too long since i saw any of you in the halls of the capitol. it s been a whirlwind couple of weeks with the election. thank you for being here. i want to start with that legislation you have with senator flake. mitch mcconnell seems to be on the record. he was saying there s nothing to worry about. mueller is not in any sort of jeopardy. do you agree with that assessment, and what should they be doing?
