asked for a cleaner confession by scott fitzgerald about what they re really doing here. i think scott fitzgerald had a momentary lapse of telling the truth. and he was pretty clear that he s just trying to this is just for purely partisan causes. and the real tragedy here is the people that are getting hurt the most are the working class in wisconsin. they re doing it to score political points with the power players in washington and they re doing it to try to hurt the president. this is not about balancing the budget, creating jobs, or doing anything that the votes of wisconsin sent these people to madison to do last november. and it really is a tragedy. senator erpenbach, for scott walker to come right out on fox news and a, as he did, that barack obama will have a much more difficult time winning the state of wisconsin as the final point about what he s been driving at legislatively, it had to be a surprise for you to hear
walker trying to dismantle and permanently cripple, you know, organized labor which as he knows supports democrats. he s trying to take out the mechanism by which a lot of democrats get elected and these democrats that fight for working families. and i think that it is an organized, concentrated effect. and i think scott walker s trying to make a big name for himself nationally. i don t think he s tending to what s really best for wisconsin. senator erpenbach go ahead, senator. yeah, i ve got a couple of things to say about that, if i could. first of all, it s very odd that he compares state workers to federal government. this is a wisconsin issue. this isn t an issue for the united states at the federal level and the federal employees. this is about wisconsin. and you could just take the flip side. just to underscore how idiotic this argument is, that they don t have it, you do, so we re taking away yours. bill gates has $40 billion. i don t. i don t see scott walker saying, wel
level and throughout the state of wisconsin. now, his idea of creating jobs might be the new privatization companies that come through and pick up the work that needs to be done. maybe that s his idea of creating jobs. but in the end what he does is he blows off the middle class in the state of wisconsin. senator erpenbach, have you had time overnight to examine the legalities of that senate vote last night that shocked everyone, including you, and all of us watching, that there was doubt last night as to exactly what transpired, whether the open meeting law was observed, whether there was the minimum of two hours emergency notice included? what s your understanding of the legal state of what occurred last night? well, i know the senate republicans are saying that there s precedent that has been set before to allow something like this to move forward. precedent doesn t give you an excuse to go ahead and ram something through like that. just so you know, lawrence. i want to be real
koch brothers or anybody else. i just want you to know, we asked senator fitzgerald to come on the show again tonight. he s come on before. we asked in fact every republican wisconsin senator to come on the show tonight. every one of them declined to come on, seeming unwilling to come here and defend in a discussion with us what went on there last night. wisconsin democratic state senator jon erpenbach and the chairman of the wisconsin democratic party mike tate, thank you both very much for your time tonight. thanks, lawrence. thank you. coming up, the impact of governor scott walker s so-called budget repair bill. wisconsin high school science teacher nathan o shaugnessy joins us. and one congressman breaks down as another continues to insist that the house needed to hold a hearing today on the radicalization of american muslims. [ male announcer ] unrestrained. unexpected. and unlike any hybrid you have ever known.
going. they re very angry at their legislator. right now there are eight recall petitions being circulated against the eight eligible republican senators, and i think we have a very, very good chance at recalling six to eight of them, and i think we need three seats to pick up the majority, and i think senator erpenbach is going to be in the majority party when the democrats take back the state senate before the end of the year. senator erpenbach, you have some very vulnerable republican colleagues, it looks like. senator randy hopper, district 18. he won his last election by 184 votes. he looks very at risk for recall. senator alberta darling. she won by 51% of the vote. senator dan kapanke. he won by 51% of the vote in a district that voted 61% for barack obama. so those look like the three most vulnerable. how long will these recall campaigns take? well, i know it s about 60
