First let me tell you how pleased i am, the people of maryland, that we are now in the process of ending this Government Shutdown. The Government Shutdown does not benefit anyone. It doesnt benefit the federal workers in maryland or around the nation. The uncertainty that the shutdown brings, those that are exempted are asked to work without knowing when they will get a paycheck. Those on furlough dontes know full ever get a paycheck. Its notns in the interest of our federal workforce. Its not in the interest of federal contractors who depend upon contracts that have been put on suspension. Its not in the interest of the public and it cost taxpayers more money. Mr. President , im pleased to see we are at the end of this shutdown to get government backup and to pay it forward. I also am pleased that weve accelerated, by two weeks, the deadline for getting a budget donere. Many of us have expressed major concern about continuing to operate under a continuing resolution. That makes no sen
Mrs. Ernst mr. President. The presiding officer the senator from iowa. Mrs. Ernst mr. President , i rise today to urge Senate Democratic leadership to end their reckless Government Shutdown. We can also see delays in maintenance of our critical aircraft, ships, our weapon systems at a time when our adversaries are becoming more aggressive and more advanced. And our Service Memb

I also am pleased that weve accelerated, by two weeks the deadline for getting a budget done. Many of us have expressed major concern about continuing to operate under a continuing resolution. That makes no sense. We heard from the department of defense that they cannot keep our country safe on continuing resolutions, we know that agencies cannot operate on continuing resolutionsst and for the public, continuing resolutions state that we will operate on masters budget. It doesnt reflect this years priorities. Thats what we should be doing every year. In this case, the republicancontrolled house, the senate and the white house. We would think thatl a
