Wuigada is a dedicated space where First Nations musicians can share and celebrate music made by other First Nations musicians with PBS audiences.
Wuigada was named and developed by the highly acclaimed indigenous singer songwriter, Kutcha Edwards. Wuigada in Mutti Mutti means to sing .
In this edition of Wuigada we hear from
singer, songwriter and proud Yorta Yorta man from the Dungala (or Murray River), in Echuca Moama, Benny Walker.
We asked Benny about the inspiration behind his third studio album and latest release,
Chosen Line. The title is taken from the song, Chosen Line , and what that is about is the career path I took, or the journey my life has taken so far, I’ve said before that it also could have been called Unchosen Line . My family history, my grandparents led me to this point, not through any pressure, but through their own choices. Both my grandfathers were musicians, my mum’s dad was a jazz saxophone player and a drum teache

In this edition of Wuigada we hear from Maningrida in Arnhem Land, with
Ripple Effect Band. While following in the tradition of saltwater rock from the top end,
Ripple Effect Band forged new ground as the first women from their community to play instruments and form their own all women band. They sing in the languages of their people, Ndjébbana, Burarra, Na-kara and Kune and they have a story to tell about their land, their languages and their culture. We are currently working on recording an album, due for release in 2022 – hopefully by then we can plan some touring to share our music with everyone.

In this edition of Wuigada we hear from Meanjin, Brisbane based artist, and formerly one half of Black Salt,
Waveney Yasso. Since moving on from Black Salt, Waveney has been forging ahead with multiple other exciting musical pursuits. Firstly, I help to run an event with Astrid Jorgensen called Pub Choir, which hopefully with the ease of restrictions will return to Brisbane again. I am also super stoked to be working alongside

Red Roses, in 2012 to critical acclaim. Since then
Sue Ray as been building her career on the back of multiple awards and award nominations, extensive touring, and delivering stand out live performances.
We took the opportunity to ask Sue Ray a few questions, including asking what she has been doing in recent times: During Covid, although it was such an incredibly difficult time for everyone, it gave me some much-needed time to be at home. Having time to sit in my thoughts, gave me a chance to do some writing. And it inspired me to start a new album. I’ve recently recorded two singles that I’m releasing this year, and at the end of this year I’ll be releasing a new full length album.
